Women Who Code Belfast to host 2019 "She Rocks!" Awards tomorrow night

  • The nominations have been announced for tomorrow night's She Rocks! Awards 2019 event, hosted by Women Who Code Belfast.

The annual Women Who Code Belfast "She Rocks!" Awards help to shine a spotlight on exceptional women within the local tech and STEM community, recognising emerging talent across the tech industry and people who have helped address educational and diversity challenges this year to create a more inclusive environment.

This year's Rising Tech star award shows the growing talent pool in Belfast, with 16 nominees recognised for the high quality of their work and potential to become tech leaders in the future. The Youth Advocate star award this year will go to either Angie McKeown or Laura Burns for volunteering their time to engage in events such as hackathons and helping to inspire the next generation of coders.

Other awards include the Community star award for individuals who give their time to the local tech community, and the Engineering leadership star for women who have proven themselves to be great team leaders or mentors who can inspire the best in others. The Diversity advocate star will go to one person for their work in addressing the gender imbalance in tech, and a new UX Designer star award will be given out this year.

A new Honorary Changemaker category will celebrate the men who have actively championed the progress of women in tech through their work, with nominees including Bazaarvoice site lead Seamus Cushley. The awards will take place tomorrow night at 7PM at Puppet in Belfast, with further details available over at meetup.
