Northern Ireland has a long history of musical talent, with some of the region's most famous artists breaking through to international markets and finding worldwide acclaim. Not all artists are given the same opportunity to make their dreams come true, and that's something music chartity PRS Foundation hopes to change.
Following a partnership with the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and with funding from Invest NI, PRS Foundation announced this week that it will now open its schemes to NI musicians. Grants of between £5,000 and £15,000 through the Momentum Music Fund to musicians who are ready to export their sounds to other countries, which can be used to cover costs such as recording studio time, touring expenses, and marketing materials.
The group will also provide access to international showcasing opportunities through the International Showcase Fund, which will offer an additional £5,000 grant to cover international travel, accomodation, and visas for artists who are invited to perform at specific industry events. The
International Showcase Fund publishes application rolling deadlines for those attending specific industry events such as SXSW, but the dates for the next round of
Momentum Music Fund will be announced in December.
