Chinese influencers say ‘Nǐ hǎo’ to Northern Ireland

  • 60+ million Chinese to read all about Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland

Three Chinese influencers and a senior editor at National Geographic Traveller magazine (China edition) – with a combined audience of more than 60 million readers – have been visiting the island of Ireland, as guests of Tourism Ireland, Tourism NI, Fáilte Ireland and Cathay Pacific.

They flew to Dublin on the Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong, which launched in June 2018.The aim of their visit was to highlight the new flight and ease of access from southern China to Ireland to their readers, as well as some of the many great things to see and do here for Chinese holidaymakers.

Their busy itinerary took them to the Walled City of Derry, the Giant’s Causeway, Old Bushmills Distillery, St George’s Market, Belfast City Hall, the Titanic Quarter, Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, Mount Stewart House and Gardens and Castle Ward.

James Kenny, Tourism Ireland’s Manager in China, said “Seeing is believing – so we’re delighted that these Chinese influencers have had the opportunity to experience some of the many things to see and do across the island of Ireland. The aim of their visit was to increase awareness of our culture, heritage and cuisine and to help secure a greater share of the 4 million Chinese visitors to Europe each year.

“China is the largest outbound travel market in the world and one that Tourism Ireland is committed to growing over the coming years. In 2017, we welcomed around 90,000 Chinese visitors to the island of Ireland; Tourism Ireland aims to grow Chinese visitor numbers to 175,000 per year, by 2025. Given that there’s a proven direct correlation between access and growth in visitor numbers, we believe Cathay Pacific’s flight from Hong Kong to Dublin will be a major game-changer in helping to grow visitor numbers from China.”
