    Role: Security Engineer - Cryptography

    Bio: After earning my Bachelors in Mathematics, I pursued a double Masters in Mathematics. I completed a Post Graduate Diploma in IT Infrastructure Systems and Security to gain a technical background before entering the industry. With the intention to apply my mathematical knowledge, I applied for MSc in Information Security with a focus on cryptography. My thesis was in the area of post-quantum cryptography.

    After working for a year at Underwriters Laboratories on side channel attacks on smart cards, I joined Angoka as a cryptography security engineer. At Angoka, I have been a part of the team working on designing Angoka's security solution. My work includes protocol design and threat analysis of the same.

    What does a typical day look like?

    Starting the work with coffee, followed by daily updates and team meetings and interesting brainstorming sessions.

    What are you currently working on?

    My current work involves designing a protocol for securing machine-to-machine communication in a dynamic setting.

    What inspired you to join this company in particular?

    Angoka's Security Engineer, Cryptography role presented me the perfect opportunity to get into secure protocol design.

    Did you always want to work in this industry (tech)?

    I started my education with Mathematics and developed interest in Cryptography which led me towards this industry.

    What’s your favourite part about your work?

    I like working on innovative ideas and implementing them.

    What would you say to other people considering a job in this industry (tech)?

    You can learn and explore a lot in this industry, but you need to be up to date with recent developments due to fast growth within this industry.

    How do you see this technology impacting on our lives?

    We are using more and more connected devices as we progress. Our technology will ensure that these connections are secure.

    Who inspired you to work in this field?

    My parents, teachers and colleagues.

    What do you consider to be the most important tech innovation or development in recent years?

    I consider Blockchain to be an important innovation in recent years. It eliminates the need for a central authority, with cryptocurrency like Bitcoin.

    What tech gadget could you not live without?

    Kindle is the one tech gadget I cannot live without.
