The survey is a major project that will capture the experiences and concerns of family owned businesses and help give them a stronger voice on a range of important issues.

Almost three-quarters of companies in Northern Ireland are classed as ‘family run’ and, over the over the next six weeks, the confidential Family Business Survey will yield the most comprehensive overview of their opinions on succession planning, market changes and other issues, including those linked to Brexit.

Maybeth Shaw, Partner at BDO Northern Ireland said: “Family businesses have a rich heritage in this region, yet despite good performance the vast majority do not survive beyond a third generation. We know that these companies face unique and emotive challenges that can affect decision-making. The Family Business Survey is about identifying the major factors that are limiting development and supporting strategic planning in turbulent times."

Participation is in the Family Business Survey is confidential, easy and takes just a few minutes to complete. All participants will receive a complimentary copy of the report and can ask for direct feedback of their responses against the consensus of other family businesses in Northern Ireland.
