Trump's tweets go nuclear (again)

  • Last night Trump tweeted out a casual threat of nuclear war (not for the first time), and people are calling out for Twitter to finally take action against his account.

“North Korean Leader King Jong Un just stated that the ‘Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.’ Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!”, the U.S. president tweeted out.

Protestors in San Francisco, known as ‘Resistance SF’, responded by projecting the phrase “@jack is #complicit” onto the walls of Twitter’s headquarters.

The group also posted on Facebook that Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s CEO, was “[breaking] the rules of his own company” and “[endangering] the world” by allowing Trump to have access to Twitter.

In the past, Dorsey has defended their decision to continue allowing access to his account, saying that the president’s tweets are “newsworthy”, and it’s in the public interest to see what he is thinking.

Another justification by Dorsey was that the social network make Trump accountable. “I believe it’s really important to hear directly from our leadership,” Dorsey stated in May 2017. “And I believe it’s really important to have these conversations out in the open, rather than have them behind closed doors.”
