  • Oculus has just announced a new mid-range VR headset called Oculus Go that will sit between its mobile Gear VR and high-end Oculus Rift.

Oculus Go will retail at $199, a huge step down from the Rift, at $499.

Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, who acquired Oculus in March 2014, previously stated an aim to get one billion people using VR technology.

Facebook VP of VR, Hugo Barra, called the device “hands-down the easiest way for developers to get involved with VR”.

The Go will feature a ‘fast-switch’ WQHD LCD screen, offering the same wide field-of-view as the Rift, and spatial audio, meaning you don’t have to use headphones with the device.

“We believe Oculus Go will be the most accessible VR experience,” Barra later said.
