  • Whether you’re a coding pro, have some experience, or completely new to the world of coding, there’s a class/event/meet-up for you. There’s an abundance of support out there for adults and children who want to develop their skills, so with that in mind we narrowed it down to a select few of events and meet-ups for you to check out.

    Django Girls

    Who’s it for: Men and women aged 18-100

    When does it run: Throughout the year (this is the 6th course from Django Girls Belfast)

    First up is Django Girls. Django Girls was created in Berlin in July 2014, before making its move to Belfast, launching its first event in February 2016, covered at the time by Sync, which can be seen here.

    Since launching, Django Girls have gone onto run many more events has have been a huge success locally. Their next event starts on November 4th, and although all of their spaces are currently full, you can email belfast@djangogirls.org to join their waiting list.

    Women Tech Space Belfast

    Who’s it for: Women

    An extension of Django Girls, Women Tech Space allows women to share and learn what they’re working on, network with likeminded people or simply work quietly on their own with women around them who share a similar interest.

    Women Tech Space held their inaugural event last month (26 September), and are back again this month (30 October).

    Code co-op NI 

    Who’s it for: Adults

    When does it run: Every other week

    Another great event that takes place bi-weekly is Code co-op NI. If you’re working on a project and want to up skill yourself, Code co-op NI, which takes place at Farset Labs is a great place to go. Likewise, these events are great for beginners also who want to gain an insight into the world of programming. Their next meet up takes place Thursday 9 Nov.

    Farset Labs Coder Dojo

    Who’s it for: Under 18’s (Under 14’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)

    When does it run: Every two weeks

    CoderDojo is a free not-for-profit coding clubs and regular sessions for young people.

    Farset Labs’ CoderDojo is run by volunteers from the Farset community and offers a range of computer skills, from web application development to scratch.

    Young people learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and more. In addition to learning to code, members meet like-minded people, show off what they’ve been working on. CoderDojo runs on the first and third Friday of each month from 6.00-8.00pm., with the next event taking place on Friday, 20 October.

    Code Club

    Who’s it for: 7-17 year olds

    When does it run: (Nearly) Every Saturday of the month

    With almost 6,000 Code Clubs throughout the UK, Holywood has established their own that runs almost every Saturday of each month.

    Code Club is ideal for 7-17 year olds of all abilities. Like the rest of the coding clubs and events mentioned above, Code Club is free of charge with mentors on site to help and assist you. The next Code Club Holywood takes place on Satruday 21 October.
