Samsung to sell a bendable phone next year

  • Samsung plans on introducing a foldable phone to their Galaxy Note lineup in 2018, according to reports by the Associated Press.

    Dongjin Koh, president of mobile business at Samsung told reporters at a news conference in South Korea there are still hurdles to overcome and release would be pushed back if these were not resolved.

    “As the head of the business, I can say our current goals is next year”, he told reporters. “When we can overcome some problems for sure, we will launch the product.”

    He did not, however, elaborate on what these problems were.

    Samsung showcased a bendable AMOLED display prototype in 2012, named Youm, and applied for a patent for a foldable phone that can bend like a flip-phone last year.

    Koh made the comments at Samsung’s news conference, where they announced the Galaxy Note 8.
