  • JD Wetherspoon, the popular pub and restaurant, has announced on their Twitter account that they will be quitting social media.

The company pointed at the “trolling” of MPs, and other negative aspects of using social media as the reason.

    In their announcement they said:

“In a world of social media, J D Wetherspoon has decided telcos down all Facebook, Instagram and other social media accounts for individual pubs and head office.”

The Independent have reported that Wetherspoon’s chairman Tim Martin has elaborated further, arguing that the company is “going against convention wisdom that these platforms are a vital component of a successful business.

“I don’t believe that closing these accounts will affect our business whatsoever, and this is the overwhelming view of our pub managers."
