The finalists of the 2018 BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE) have been announced as the Exhibition gears up for the 54th year of the renowned educational event.
BT, the organisers and sponsors of the event, have revealed that 21 projects have been shortlisted from 13 Northern Ireland schools. This year’s award is more special than ever, as the 2018 overall winner will represent Ireland in the European Union Contest for Young Scientists when it comes to Dublin in September.
The 41 students from Northern Ireland have worked tirelessly to come up with a wide range of innovative projects from an investigation into the effect of different coloured LEDs on the growth of plants to a study which analyses if hamster wheels can be used to create a new source of renewable energy. The students from Northern Ireland will showcase their projects at the exhibition which will take place from 10th – 13th January 2018 at the RDS in Dublin.
This science and technology exhibition is one of the largest and longest running events of its kind. In addition to promoting STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), it challenges students to imagine a big idea and bring it to life through research and development in a practical way – away from the classroom.

The BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition offers one of the most coveted awards for participants, with a substantial prize fund and the BTYSTE perpetual trophy, as well as over 140 prizes for individuals, groups, and teachers.
