  • A Belfast-based start-up is celebrating after winning the prestigious Wired Magazine’s Security 2017 Start-Up Showcase in London.

ProtectBox, led by CEO and Founder Kiran Bhagotra, was one of seven companies pitching at the event.

The company’s cyber security search and comparison engine has been developed by a team of cyber and data experts from government and industry.

Judges were impressed by the traction and level of recognition the company has received from industry to date as well as Kiran’s vision as a tech leader.

“This was the biggest showcase for cyber securities companies across Europe, even being invited to pitch there has been very beneficial,” she says.

“The people I got access to were absolutely incredible and I have had a number of individuals approach me afterwards asking if I would work with them.”

ProtectBox has enjoyed a strong run of success in recent months.

Prior to winning the Wired Security showcase, the start-up was selected to pitch among the top 10 companies at the Slush Singapore pitch competition. This was part of the U.K government’s trade mission to Singapore. The company was also named StartPlanetNI 2017 accelerator’s 2nd Most Investible start-up and was a finalist in UAE’s WiSTEM 2016 and the CyberSecurity Awards 2016.

Kiran is now looking forward to this year’s INVENT 2017 Awards (which takes place at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on Thursday), where she is among the finalists.

“We’re getting to finals and winning security and wider tech innovation awards. That shows how much support ProtectBox has received from within the community, and with each win new doors are opened and new partnership opportunities arise,” says Kiran.

“We’re now getting ready to push the button on our product launch and continue to build on our success to date."

Next week Kiran travels to the Dubai World Trade Centre for GITEX and Protectbox is hoping to be selected to pitch in the GITEX Supernova Challenge.
