Successful debut for 'Friday Night Mashup' event

  • Around 150 leading figures in tech, business, investment and media from Belfast, Dublin and Derry came out in force to support the first ‘Friday Night Mashup’ event at Titanic Dock’s and Pumphouse in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter on Friday evening (November 29).  

     Friday Night Mashup ( is a regular event series created “to connect and empower Northern Ireland’s entrepreneurs to go out and take on the world”. Four hi-tech companies - CanDo3D, Komodo, Pirate Dashboard and Sian’s Plan - demo-ed at the event, with Sian’s Plan named as top pitching company on the night. 

     Organiser Aaron Taylor said: “Friday Night Mashup is run by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs. Our aim is to energise the entrepreneurial eco-system in Northern Ireland - we do that by bringing good-quality speakers and by opening up the opportunity for tech startups to demo their products and pitch for support and mentoring.”

     Speaking at the event were: 

    • John Pryor, Corporate Innovation consultant for RocketSpace in San Francisco 
    • Paul McDonnell, Start Up Director at the Dublin Web Summit, Europe’s largest technology event
    • Chris McClelland from Brewbot - the product that combines smart technology with home-brewing - who were ‘Hottest Start Up’ at Friday Night Mashup
    • Lord Mayor Máirtín ó Muilleoir.


    The event - which is sponsored by Belfast City Council as main sponsor and NI Science Park, Hays, Verizon, Digital DNA, ASG, Cleaver Fulton Rankin and Atlas Communications - also featured Patchblocks as ‘Kickstarter Company of the Month’.
