  • OnePlus, a China-based phonemaker, has admitted some customers worldwide were prevented from calling emergency services, because of a technical glitch in some of its devices.

A reddit user highlighted the technical glitch, when posting details of their OnePlus 5 phone restarting when attempting to make a 911 emergency call.

Reddit user Seattle_Horn posted: "I had to dial 911 on my OnePlus 5 yesterday (saw a building on fire a few blocks away) and both times I tried my phone rebooted on me.”

Other reddit users quickly followed suit and raised similar concerns, including the failure to make 999 calls in the UK.

OnePlus promotes itself as a phone manufacturer that sells high-spec smartphones at low prices, and its phones have gained a huge following across the globe since launching in 2013.

The Chinese phonemaker said it would release a software update to resolve the problem.

In a statement OnePlus said: "We have been in touch with the customer and have tested a software update that has resolved the issue. We will be rolling out the software update shortly."
