Network Security Engineer

  • How You’ll Support Our Mission

    ESO’s teams are growing, and our software is in demand globally by firefighters, paramedics, hospitals and governments. To meet this demand, we are building an industry-leading cyber security team in Belfast to protect our customers and data from a variety of fast moving and constantly evolving threats.

    We are looking for a forward thinking, enthusiastic and experienced security professional to join our Belfast and US teams as our Network Security Engineer. You will be working alongside our fire, hospital and EMS Engineering teams, who need assistance to secure our mission-critical applications.  These applications are used to help our customers go about their daily job of protecting their communities and saving lives.

    This role will be a critical part of the newly formed Security function, reporting to the Director of Security Engineering and Architecture and helping our customers go about their daily job of protecting their communities and saving lives.

    You will be helping to design and implement secure systems, using techniques such as defence in depth, threat modelling and zero trust across Microsoft Azure cloud native technologies as we scale internationally and move to serverless systems.

    This role will have a high degree of autonomy but will be part of a high functioning, motivated and forward-thinking team.  You have the chance to join a growing and passionate team, working on critical products, whilst being supported with training opportunities and mentoring.

    What You’ll Be Doing – the day to day

    • Contribute to, and oversee key network security policies that will be used by internal and external teams
    • Own the configuration of critical security controls such as DDOS protection, firewalls, web application firewalls and cloud-native variations.
    • Overseeing, validating and approving firewall changes.
    • Deploy, monitor and maintain critical security controls such as Firewalls.
    • Assist with and participate in regular security control testing such as penetration testing.
    • Ensure that key security controls and network components have vulnerabilities removed in a timely fashion.
    • Work with corporate network and production network engineers to remediation incidents.
    • Act as an escalation point for and participate in network-related security incidents.
    • Working collaboratively cross-team, to impart your expertise across the organisation.
    • Be in the detail, working shoulder-to-shoulder with our technology teams.
    • Creating future state and current state architecture diagrams and blueprints.

     

    Who You Are - some of the essential things required to be successful in the role

    • 5 years of experience securing networks, including a high degree of confidence configuring a variety of vendor gear (Cisco, Palo Alto, Dell, Aruba, etc.).
    • Experience should include:
    • Working with cloud native security technologies, including Azure components (App Gateways, Azure Firewalls, etc)
    • Working towards zero trust architectures
    • Working with Intrusion Prevention Systems, Intrusion Detection Systsems
    • Technical automation experience in an agile enterprise environment.
    • Designing, testing and configuring key network components such as VPNs, Firewalls and encryption
    • Designing networks to be resilience to cyber-attacks and ransomware
    • 5 years of Systems Administration experience with Linux and Windows Server Operating systems, including a good understanding of troubleshooting and securing their network stack.
    • You should also:
      • Be well versed in secure coding standards, including OWASP Top 10
      • Understand current attack tactics, techniques and procedures along with the use of MITRE Attack framework,
      • Have a passion for what you do and understanding how your work impacts ESO’s success

     

    Who You Are – it’s desirable if you have any of the following

    • CISSP or CISA qualifications
    • Experience of State/FedRAMP implementation
    • Be experienced in threat modelling, implementing NIST frameworks (e.g. 800-53) and CIS controls
