    Consultant - Product

    Role Purpose & Context

    Reporting to the Director of Evolve, the Consultant - Product leads, engages and drives the significant engagements for our customer’s (IT Directors and Business leaders) needs. A change agent working on behalf of LIT across Liberty Mutual. They will be responsible for working with senior leadership across the business to transform the operation. They have a very wide range of skills and are equally comfortable working in the technology and business domains.

    The Consultant - Product is an expert in leading diverse groups of people from across business and technology, identifying how value can be brought to the operation, building consensus and seeing the opportunity through to conclusion when value has been realised. They have strong delivery skills combined with a deep knowledge of how technology can be used to transform and intelligently automate the business value chains. They have a broad range of skills, a deep expertise of the Liberty Mutual business and can adapt to any situation. They are experts in change and are excellent mentors and coaches.

    The Consultant - Product leads our innovation activities, are very experienced in helping incubate and scale new opportunities. They help build a culture of experimentation and adoption of new thinking across LM and LIT. They build very strong partnership both internally and externally.


    Latitude to Act

    Primary mode – Enablement/Transformation

    Leads major initiatives across Business & IT domains. Will specialise in one type of consultancy and be recognised for it (Product, Technical, Business, Transformation, etc.). Will typically operate and interact at the Director level and will be primarily focused on influencing and partnering with people at that level.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Act as lead on significant Digital transformation engagements from inception through to conclusion acting as the key driver along the full digital lifecycle. Partnering with Business, IT, LIT and vendor groups and acting as the glue to bring all parties together gain alignment and driving the program through to value realization.
    • Partner with the leadership and play a significant role on LIT’s Digital Engagements, ensuring you gain alignment with the various stakeholders and progress the engagement through to conclusion.  Act as a lead on a phase of the Digital engagement, most probably exploration.
    • Design and develop Liberty IT’s consulting capability, generating appropriate funding for consulting engagements.
    • Build a culture of experimentation and adoption of new capabilities, resulting in the ongoing evolution of a suite of common practices, techniques & processes across Liberty IT which adds business value. Seen as a Subject Matter Expert in techniques and practices for consulting and leading large change programs. Will be sought out for advice and support on adoption of new capabilities. Early adopter and instrumental in influencing how capabilities are to be scaled and into which areas.
    • Build strong and true partnerships at the programme level in alignment with EBT objectives to ensure Incubator and LIT are appropriately positioned to execute on their strategic objectives. Recognised as an equal and a leader at the initiative level being asked for advice and challenging partners in equal measure.
    • Partner with LIT leadership (SDL’s) and Incubator leadership to provide consultancy services into our LM Business partners. Lead Business Consultancy engagements and capable of integrating with the Business team, fully conversant in the business language and understanding. Build a strong relationship and understanding with Liberty Mutual Business and IT partners, positioning LIT for high quality work.
    • Act as a LIT ambassador both internally for LIT and in the external market. Will be held up as a role model for our staff and is visibly seen promoting the company values.
    • Regularly asked to present or represent significant engagements and will regularly interact with Senior leadership. Very visible promotion of company initiatives and reinforcement of the strategic direction of the company and how each initiative contributes to that overall direction.
    • Use significant experience to coach and mentor other members of staff, helping to grow leaders for the future. Typically coach and mentor at the programme level (SDL/TCM, US equivalent) and be recognised and sought out for these skills and experience.
    • Act as a trusted advisor for a Senior staff (LIT SDL, IT Director or Business equivalent) on a significant program or engagement.
    • Enhance Liberty IT’s Innovation capability and influences Liberty Mutual partners’ thinking on how they secure maximum value from LIT. Enable innovation to occur within programmes and across diverse groups transforming how those groups work leaving a legacy of innovative thinking behind.
    • Lead the identification, analysis and resolution of organisational systematic problems and trends – work with other leaders to identify systematic problems or trends and works with appropriate leadership to resolve the issues and propagate learnings.

    • LIT’s overall position with our customers (in partnership with our Account Directors)

    Required Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

    • A minimum of 3 years recent relevant technical experience at a senior level, with a proven track record of providing technical leadership on complex / challenging technical projects
    • Strategic thinker and implementor; experienced in successfully drive change into the department to support overall company strategy and direction.
    • Have extensive agile knowledge.
    • Experience of introducing cultural change.
    • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
    • Experience in building strong customer / business partner relationships
    • Ability to adapt, pivot and take advantage of the situation


    Desired Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

    • Thorough experience of industry best practices
    • Experience working in a similar environment (i.e. Financial / Insurance services)
    • Experience of working in a globally distributed team
