Scrum Master

  • Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology is currently searching for a Scrum Master to serve/lead two agile development teams.

    In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the Scrum process. Guiding your teams to deliver software applications effectively and efficiently, you will help the team take ownership of high quality standards, looking for continuous improvement, whilst also evaluating the progress and results of the development efforts. Working closely with the Product Owner, you will help the team focus on the current business goals, whilst tracking progress for the benefit of both the team and the business stakeholders. In this role, there will be the additional opportunity for more general agile coaching as parts of the business are still in the early phases of its agile adoption.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist Product Owners in coordinating development projects across agile teams
    • Facilitating Scrum ceremonies with a focus on business and people value.
    • Promoting knowledge transfer between teams
    • Provides upper management support and data as necessary to ensure appropriate messaging to strategic clients
    • Gather necessary metrics proactively to ensure trending and data analysis activities can be supported as necessary
    • Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving.
    • Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution whilst getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work
    • Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
    • Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example
    • Help the team[s] in finding efficient ways of working, whilst protecting the team from direct interruptions (internal & external).
    • Provides a conduit of open communication, promoting trust and transparency through honesty and integrity.

    QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS JOB

    • Ideally educated to degree level (BSc or BEng) or equivalent  in Computer Science or a related discipline
    • 3+ years of hands-on experience as Scrum Master with a software development team, including experience coaching and mentoring the team in Agile practices or Agile Games
    • Additional knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Lean, etc. a plus
    • Experience applying a wide variety of well-documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc).
    • Excellent communication and mentoring skills
    • Experience/awareness of development practices such ATDD, TDD, BDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing a plus
    • C# and SQL development experience a plus
