Technical Architect

    Technical Architect

    The Technical Architect (Software Engineering) provides technical leadership and influences technical direction across the global organisation. As a key contributor to the Leadership & Support team of a unit(s), the Architect both leads and delivers value directly to the customer by delivering code and influencing change to meet business needs. They apply industry knowledge to coach, mentor and challenge the business and development teams.

    The Architects have deep customer domain knowledge of the Business and Technical enterprises they represent. They are proactive about identifying the business needs and can leverage our differentiating capabilities to turn business problems and opportunities into technical designs.

    As a member of the Liberty IT architecture team and in partnership with other key groups, you are responsible for identifying and cultivating new differentiating technical capabilities for the benefit of all Liberty IT.

    The Architect acts as a champion of Liberty IT, across our customer’s business and IT domains and externally in the IT industry.

    The role centres on the following core areas:

    • Delivery as part of a team – hands-on coding.
    • Identifying and building differentiating technical capabilities based upon business needs
    • Leadership and coaching within the Unit(s), across Liberty IT and our customers’ business and IT to ensure application of Engineering Excellence.
    • Constantly evolving our Engineering Excellence application and reputation
    • Helping shape and influence the LIT strategy
    • Influencing the system architecture of your area of responsibility

     

    In this role, you will:

    • Understand the whole LM and LIT context for your area and trends and practices outside of LIT / LM and how these will benefit LIT.
    • Shape and influence LIT Account and LM Departmental strategy. You will own and be responsible for setting technical strategies, patterns, standards, policies and roadmaps.
    • Make, guide and justify decisions characterized by high levels of risk, impact and complexity. You will build consensus between various groups or highly independent and diverse stakeholders.
    • Network and communicate with senior stakeholders across LM and proactively seek out opportunities for digital transformation
    • Support multiple teams, finding and using best practice and emerging technologies
    • Inspire other architects and technical leaders and help them understand how to deliver the goals of the organisation, account and unit
    • Provide technical management and drive development of very large, strategic, complex system development projects involving future facing technologies and platforms. Actively design, code and test components as part of delivery.
    • Responsible for investigation and prototyping of complex, cross platform business solutions to validate newer technologies. Recommends emerging technological solutions to increase market share and reduce operational costs.
    • Actively participate in selected enterprise projects and communities, leading where appropriate, working closely with architects from other units within LIT and LM.
    • Provide consultation to Senior Leadership, business partners and peer groups regarding long and short-range business requirements. Recommend innovations, which anticipate the future direction of the business, its drivers and technology strategy.
    • Influence the selection and implementation of hardware or software product standards; make significant contributions to strategic roadmaps and technical practices.
    • Set standards as appropriate for Engineering Excellence, optimizing the application of technology across the organization.
    • Partner with the SDL to develop and deliver any required pitch to secure new business development opportunities.
    • Coach and mentor employees to develop their potential. Share knowledge about areas of expertise and help others develop technical and professional capabilities.
    • Participate in meet-ups, conferences and industry events relevant to your technical offering to raise the global profile of Liberty IT as a leading technology company.

    Essential Criteria

    • A third level degree in an Information Technology or Computer Science related field.
    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience at a senior level in applications development in a complex, multi- platform distributed environment, with a proven track record of technical leadership
    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience at a senior level, with exposure to providing technical direction in the delivery of software in a complex, multi-platform distributed environment.
    • Proven technical leadership experience in delivering complex solutions and designs using multiple technologies and processing environments.
    • Extensive experience with multiple programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python and/or .Net
    • In-depth knowledge and exposure to cloud native technologies; either AWS or Azure.
    • Extensive knowledge of all components of technical architecture.
