    Your role in the team

     

    The Technical Writer role sits within a critical team in Allstate Northern Ireland, driving critical data governance and cataloging efforts for the enterprise.  You will play a leading role in driving the operationalization and adoption of the data marketplace across the enterprise.  The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the team’s execution on complex, high priority initiatives with data management and data privacy compliance impacts to the enterprise.  This role requires innovative thinking to enable key capabilities and onboard the user community to an automated data management and data provisioning solution.

     

    Successful execution of this role will require an ability to juggle technical and people-process objectives.  Cataloging and privacy management is handled on a variety of data sources independently managed by different groups. Supporting the different areas will require an ability to communicate with and instruct technical developers, architectural consultants, business owners and leaders in different areas on the use of a technical toolset while also driving the end value to promote adoption.

     

    A strong product mindset coupled with excellent communication skills are required to effectively influence multiple levels of leadership to deliver on prioritized business outcomes.  This will be a high visibility role that requires someone with extremely strong communication and training skillsets coupled with the ability to work with SMEs to understand a technical set of vended applications.

     

    Rolling out in a self-service model will involve gaining organic buy-in that reduces technical hurdles and promotes excitement/engagement from the user community.  To do this a variety of resources will need to be developed or refined such as e-learning training curriculum, informational videos, technical how-to documentation, operational playbooks, Job Aids executive summaries, etc.  Allstate’s innovative approach to data governance involves cutting-edge solutions involving vended and homegrown capabilities.

     

     

    • Proactively contribute to the common vision and communication, including living into the enterprise commitment of treating data as a corporate asset.
    • Facilitate information gathering sessions to onboard and support user community. Partner with user community to align on which data management solutions meet their needs
    • Develop and author data management process documentation to educate the user community of best practices and provide guidance and recommendations on implementation.  Owning Subject Matter Expert interactions in order to understand and translate requirements that enable data management capabilities such as scanning data at rest, curating metadata, managing data definitions/taxonomies, defining business data flows, or documenting technical data lineage.
    • Drive problem solving and issue resolution to ensure task completion by establishing priorities and resolving conflicts with team members, functional mangers, and senior leaders.
    • Identify technology and process constraints, driving mitigation strategies for complex and/or critically important initiatives.
    • Manage complex work through a cohesive plan that outlines objectives, timelines, risks, and deliverables, ensuring the most important work moves forward. Proactively and clearly communicate risks, issues, and status to leadership at multiple levels.
    • Assess training and documentation needs as well as observing and evaluating results of training and communication vehicles to determine overall effectiveness of initiatives and make improvements.
    • Edits/reviews self/others’ communications and plans for creativity and capacity for meeting goals
    • Seeks innovative and creative ways of communicating to engage various audiences

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK
    • A minimum of 4 years of business experience
    • Technical writing and/or executive slide presentation experience
    • Proficiency in developing educational and training materials
    • Ability to design and lead dynamic projects that are complex and/or critically important
    • Advanced ability to simultaneously manage multiple complex and ambiguous projects given aggressive timelines; comfortable performing in a fast paced, dynamic business environment
    • Advanced ability to develop and/or revise tactics to support changing strategies and direction
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly communicate project decisions to leadership at multiple levels
    • Creative skills and ability to analyze and address training or informational gaps
    • Experience navigating both business and technic

     

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

    • Experience designing information or marketing sites, business process documentation or executive-level summary decks.
    • Experience story-boarding e-learning courses, technical demonstrations and/or instructional videos.
    • Experience working within agile methodologies
    • Knowledge of data governance and/or metadata management principles
    • Understanding of vended data management toolsets such as Informatica Axon Data Governance, Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog, Collibra Data Intelligence, Alation Data Catalog Platform, Atlas, Infosphere, etc
    • Enterprise cataloging experience
    • Knowledge of Privacy compliance principles
    • Experience in the insurance industry
    • Consulting certifications (i.e. BPM, Six Sigma, ASQ, Facilitation)
