  Your role in the team

   

  The Allstate Technology Innovation R&D focuses on emerging technology and solutions, and how they might be applied to business problems and opportunities.  There are three types of work we engage on.  1) Basic research to understand the technology/solution and what value it might offer, 2) Applied research to explore how a technology/solution might be applied to a specific business problem, and 3) Risk mitigation to identify and mitigate risks/challenges in employing the technology/solution in the Allstate eco-system.

   

  We are seeking candidates with a genuine interest in R&D and curiosity.  If you want to exercise your “big picture thinking”, love to dig deep in technology while exploring the ‘art of the possible’, and are comfortable with lots of unknowns, then this could be the role for you!

   

  The successful candidates will be comfortable collaborating with business partners, delivery leads and technical staff and have the ability to identify, define, nurture, and nourish ideas and solutions that can benefit the business.  Candidates require strong communication skills (presentation, discussion, written, and listening), and the ability to deal with multiple related issues simultaneously yet retain a clear focus on the goals and the value we are creating.

   

   

  • Identify and share forward-looking technical capabilities to inform new opportunity solutions for various businesses
  • Develop Hypotheses, testable experiments, and share results
  • Develop software to prove concepts, test experiments, create Concept Demonstators and present findings to rest of team and business partners
  • Bring new technology and ideas to the team for evaluation
  • Work in an agile deliver team
  • Explore how technology can be incorporated to the Allstate technology eco system
  • Liaise with business partners to identify opportunities and frame problems
  • Be a trusted partner to consult on technology and impartially evaluate options
  • Partner with the forward-engineering team to deliver MVP and pilots on solutions  

   

   

   

  So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

   

  • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK
  • At least 5 years’ experience designing and developing software applications
  • Be able to demonstrate ability to review and contribute to business problem/opportunity definition, hypotheses, and develop solutions based upon those
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the principles of mobile and web application development and security, cloud solutions, micro-service, Single Page Application, PCF/Spring/Java
  • Be able to demonstrate problem solving skills;
  • Be able to demonstrate strong communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical product timelines in a fast-paced environment.

   

   

   

  We also have some desirable criteria

   

  • Previous experience of technology research and innovation 
  • Understanding of the following delivery practices: XP, agile scrum, Waterfall, and SaFE
  • Knowledge of, or experience with Architectural design tools
