  At Aflac Northern Ireland we’re all about using technology to deliver exceptional customer experiences, and one of the new teams we’re establishing will be responsible for building solutions that do just that. Using web & mobile technologies such as Angular, Ionic and Node to deliver core capabilities to our policyholders and focusing on a mobile-first, cloud-enabled strategy, making it easy for our customers to interact with us, change policy information, submit claims – all from the device in their pocket. At the same time, we’re building web solutions that will help deliver an omni-channel experience to our policyholders, ensuring that their interactions with Aflac are as seamless as possible.

  Role Context 

  We are looking for experienced Scrum Masters who will be responsible for ensuring the team lives the agile values and principles and follow the processes and practices that they agreed they should use. We are looking for people to work with our teams and get the best from a capable group of Developers, Testers, and DevOps engineers.   

  Responsibilities 

  • Coaching the team members in self-management and cross-functionality 
  • Helping the Scrum Team focus on creating high-value Increments that meet the Definition of Done 
  • Causing the removal of impediments to the Scrum Team’s progress 
  • Ensuring that all Scrum events take place and are positive, productive, and kept within the timebox 
  • Help the Product Owner to find techniques for effective Product Backlog management 
  • Helping the Scrum Team understand the need for clear and concise Product Backlog items; 
  • Facilitating stakeholder collaboration as requested or needed. 
  • Leading, training, and coaching the organization in its Scrum adoption 
  • Planning and advising Scrum implementations within the organization 
  • Removing barriers between stakeholders and Scrum Teams 

  Skills and experience 

  Below is an overview of the skills and experience we are looking for, but remember, don’t rule yourself out if you don’t have everything on the list – it’s your intellect and your attitude we are really after. 

  Essential  

  • 2+ years as a Scrum Master or managing Agile projects 
  • 5+ years working in software development and engineering projects 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to coach and train others effectively in Agile techniques 
  • Strong influencing, conflict resolution, decision making and negotiation skills. 
  • Ability to quickly adapt to a dynamic environment 
  • Bachelor’s degree - preferably in a Computer Science, Engineering, or STEM subject. Comparable commercial experience may also be considered 

  Desirable  

  • Experience with different Agile frameworks e.g. Kanban, XP, Lean Software Development, Less 
  • Experience/ Knowledge of good engineering practices (e.g. Test Automation, CICD, TDD, paired programming) 
  • Experience of delivering Agile solutions for customers/clients located in a different time zones 
  • Scrum Master Certification 
  • Agile Coach Certification
