    Your role in the team

     

    We are helping build the next generation Insurance Engine for Allstate and as a result of growth, have an opportunity for a Lead Test Engineer to operate at the cutting edge of testing technology.

     

    Your role, through a combination of technical knowledge and owning testing, will be to ensure quality is built into a new product from the start so that it is seamless, on demand, automated and invisible.  You will work with the Test Manager on a daily basis to lead a team of technical and highly motivated Test Engineers in key areas of the business.

     

    The ideal person will have working knowledge of test automation in complex and large environments, be passionate about delivering quality products and had exposure to Services Testing.

     

    The Test Engineer will be part of a product team which will be responsible for creating modular components that will facilitate the creation of new Policy Platforms across Allstate. Using the latest technologies on the foundational core of JAVA, Spring plus Cloud, this product team will be exposed to the forefront of technology challenges and Design Thinking.

     

    You will be working with our Technical Test Architects to influence: Automating everything, and Innovative engineering solutions

     

    • Technical lead on the team for all aspects of testing including automation and Services
    • Write and maintain automated test scripts for new product
    • Write test cases to test services and API’s
    • Understand issues related to the test infrastructure and lead resolution within wider team
    • Document, analyze and communicate bugs/issues accurately and clearly
    • Work with development and business teams on a daily basis
    • Participate in Scrum Daily Stand-up, Sprint and iterative development activities
    • Participate in Sprint planning, release planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives
    • Ability to work in a very fast paced development organization

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

    • All candidates must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK.  Please note, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a hands-on technical role within the Software Development Lifecycle
    • 1+ years’ experience providing technical leadership, ensuring the quality of a large-scale complex product or area
    • The ability to inspire and enthuse a team
    • Knowledge and understanding of Web Services in relation to software testing
    • Demonstrable use of at least one Service testing tool e.g. SOAP UI, Ready API, Postman
    • Experience of writing test scripts  
    • Experience constructing test cases and executing them across functional, regression or system testing
    • Experience with at least one of the following areas: Python, Selenium, Groovy , SQL, Java, C#
    • Experience using test management tools (e.g. VersionOne, Jira – Zephyr)
    • Understanding of agile software development and CI/CD pipelines in relation to testing
    • Strong communication skills
    • Strong analytical ability
    • Be able to demonstrate:
      • The understanding of testing practices such as TDD, BDD and applicability to different situations
      • The understanding of different types and levels of testing, including services, UI and performance testing
      • The ability to partner with peers to deliver successful products
      • The ability to understand and absorb large amounts of information quickly

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

    • Experience in testing using Test Driven Development (TDD)
    • Experience in testing using Business Driven Development (BDD)
    • Usage of systems that support Continuous Integration (CI systems) - GitHub, Maven, Jenkins etc.
    • Usage of Services testing tools
    • Usage of performance testing tools
    • Static Code Analysis Tools
