Full Stack Mobile Engineer

  • The role

    We want a passionate .NET developer who wants to build innovative mobile applications on both iOS and Android. We want someone who understands how to deliver exceptional customer experiences through front-end apps, and who is motivated to learn new skills.     About the team

    We are currently growing one of our first successful Agile teams which is responsible for developing one of Aflac’s flagship mobile apps: Aflac Agent Hub. Agent Hub is used by Aflac’s agents who work across the USA, selling our products and supporting our customers when they need to make a claim. The app allows our sales agents to be more mobile than ever, accessing sales performance data, and supporting policyholders whilst they are on the move.

    We are growing our mobile app development team in Belfast, using Agile development practices to ensure we build high-quality software that puts our customers and agents at the heart of the solution. The team will be fully functional with leadership, full stack development (mobile application development leveraging microservices architecture and fuelled by intelligent data pipelines and automated testing capability) all located in Northern Ireland, and supported by project SMEs in the United States.

    The team will leverage design-thinking, and a customer experience persona-based approach, developing user stories and wireframes that can be leveraged not only forsupport the app build, but also to ensure our business stakeholders understand what is being developed, and what is coming next.

    What you'll be doing

    • Delivering high-quality, tested, secure customer-centric solutions for mobile platforms
    • Working closely with product management and UX to take an idea from concept to delivery using excellent software design, coding, and processes
    • Developing and integrating application programming interfaces (APIs) to provide functionality to the mobile app
    • Listening to the inputs of others and working towards the best solution design that maximises the value to the policyholder, without ego or prejudice
    • Solving complex problems alongside fellow team members and getting involved in full stack development
    • Implementing automation through a CI/CD delivery process
    • Participating in daily stand-ups and contributing to an Agile development team that values the opinion of everyone in the team
    • Responsible for unit testing and maximizing test automation as part of the SDLC using a Test Driven Develop approach

    What you should have-don't worry if you don't have it all

    Below is an overview of the skills and experience we are looking for, but remember, don’t rule yourself out if you don’t have everything on the list – it’s your intellect and your attitude we are really after.

    Essential

    • Passionate about building applications that are easy to use and add value to the end customer
    • 3+ years working as either a .NET developer and/or mobile app developer for either Android/ iOS 
    • 3+ years IT industry experience in any sector or domain
    • Experience integrating application programming interfaces (APIs) to support mobile functionality
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work well within a team environment, maximising the different strengths across the team
    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a Computer Science, Engineering, or STEM subject. Comparable commercial experience may also be considered

    Desirable

    • Strong .Net/C# knowledge and experience, particularly MVVM
    • Experience  in creating Xamarin-based mobile applications for both iOS & Android
    • Experience of delivering Agile solutions for customers/clients located in different time zones
    • Experience of working with Azure Function apps or equivalent
    • Experience of implementing security standards to meet privacy requirements for web/portal/mobile applications
    • Experience with containers and microservices
    • Cloud experience working with either Azure or AWS
    • Knowledge and experience of DevOps as part of Agile software development
    • Other valuable technologies: SQL & Relational Databases, Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Xamarin Mono Framework, Xcode, NoSQL databases, React, Ionic
