Product Owner - Allstate Technology Support Center

  • As a digital product owner, you will be empowered to create, drive and execute product strategy.

    You will support and guide the definition and implementation of Allstate Technology Support Centre’s (ATSC) strategy. This includes the implementation of the new ATSC Interaction model moving from a call centric environment to an effortless customer centric self-service environment.

    To inform that strategy, you will invest significant time with customers to understand their needs & habits and to elicit their feedback to potential product concepts and/or to released product iterations.

    You will have updated customer journey maps on your walls. People will look to you as the Voice of the Customer.

    To build buy-in for product strategy, you will be responsible for business case(s) and roadmaps that demonstrate how activities will translate into meeting goals and delivering customer and enterprise value.

    To execute product strategy, you will participate in the development of software as product owner alongside your agile team(s), partner with stakeholders inside and outside of the enterprise, present to field teams and at events as the “product expert” for your defined product area.

    You will be responsible for writing all the stories for the development team and ensuring a continuous backlog is maintained. Collaboration with partner XP Agile teams to deliver the value product interactions and produce minimal viable products to ensure continuous improvement for an effortless experience for our customers.

    Key responsibilities will include (but aren’t limited to):

    Develop and adapt the Product Vision and KPIs.
    Serve the end user by ensuring impeccable features and functions are delivered for the product based on research and feedback
    Be an integral and equal member of the Scrum Team. Participate in and share responsibility for collective team decisions.
    Meet regularly with the Product Manager of Service Now
    Creating User Stories including acceptance tests
    Ensure impeccable features and functions are delivered for the product
    Refine the Product Backlog and prioritization of backlog.
    Participate in Sprint Ceremonies; Daily Stand-Up, Sprint Demo, Sprint Retrospective, Sprint Planning and Product Backlog.
    Be empowered to make operational decisions on behalf of the team.
    Identify Minimum Viable Products.
    Maintain a holistic Product view helping to keep the Scrum Team focused on the Product Vision and KPIs.
    Continually improve functionality and strive to gain technical Product knowledge.
    Providing feedback to development team
    Use your knowledge and experience to develop others and influence Leadership.

    About You
    You are entrepreneurial with a strong inclination towards action and leadership in ambiguous situations
    You are familiar with user-centered design, customer journey maps and know how to apply these techniques to learn more about customers and to gather their feedback to product concepts/iterations. Or you are all-in to learn and operate with this approach.
    You embrace the customer problem to help determine what is the most valuable feature to be building next, given the current constraints you operate within
    You devise experiments and measure the results to determine the next appropriate action.
    You care about the “why” and are able to structure a logical analysis to inform a direction (for example: frame a build vs. buy decision and use KPIs to evaluate a direction)
    You can translate complex topics into a granular story that a developer can work from.
    You’re ready to judge your success by the success of your team and the happiness of your customers

    Hours of work
    Core hours Mon – Fri;
    Flexibility to meet business needs as required

    Essential criteria
    Previous experience in a Product Owner role or experience in a Product Environment
    Ability to identify possibilities to innovate in a product space
    Be able to demonstrate a passion for learning and learning agility;
    Excellent communications skills;
    Ability to be self-directed and to proactively anticipate problems and seek opportunities;
    Entrepreneurial with a strong inclination towards action;
    Skilled at defining and prioritising features;

    Desirable Criteria – This may be used where we have a high number of applicants 
    Previous involvement working for a startup company
    Previous experience working with an agile team
    Previous experience of directly gathering and analyzing user feedback
    Previous experience with web or mobile products 
    Previous experience in one of the following roles:
    Project Management
    Business Analyst experience
    Quality Assurance experience
    Delivery Lead/Management experience

    Travel requirements - flexibility as required
