    Your role in the team

     

    The Service Management team, part of Production Health supports Level 2 Incidents and Problems for all the applications within the Allstate Canada Group.  The team are also responsible for various queues of work to support, IBM, Defect Work, Reporting & Analytics, Technical Support Activity and more. As a member of this newly formed team this candidate will be part of the Technical Specialist Team.

     

    We are looking for someone who will help to lead and support the daily operations of Allstate Canada’s mission critical business applications.  Duties include general user support, error correction, batch processing, and overall system support to maintain operating stability.  This team also support both internal and external support staff as well as relations with other internal teams and vendors.

     

    As well as supporting the Business Critical applications this role will also play a part in supporting the Integration Applications, such as FTP, MSMQ, BizTalk, Link Manager, XCOM, Talend, etc.

     

    As this is a Senior role, we are hoping the candidate will bring their current knowledge and experience with them to promptly progress and help mature our Technical Specialist capabilities.

     

    • Support technical customer interactions from kick off through production implementation
    • Support day to day operations in Production and pre-Production environments
    • Achieve operational objectives by maintaining current system; evaluating, recommending, testing and installing new application technologies or enhancements to existing technologies; contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change.
    • Activities such as, System Availability (‘Red to Green’ and Application Verification); User Connectivity; System Performance (Tuning); Files and Interfaces (File Sizing, Indexing, Space Issues); Job Scripts and Utilities.
    • Participate in On-Call Rota to support after hours for Production environment
    • Ability to work closely with Development and Business teams to gather an instrument requirements
    • Requires ability to quickly assess a problem, gather the data, and resolve issues especially if operations or teams are affected
    • Applicant will be cross-trained in the other areas to allow for greater support and knowledge across the team
    • Maintain, and support a variety of business applications, including training of end users, performance of ad-hoc reporting, and monthly updates.
    • Improve existing procedures and processes and ensure documentation is in place and up-to-date
    • Document and track operations tasks and issues.
    • Improves quality results by evaluating and upgrading processes; directing changes.
    • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
    • Ability to work closely with Development and Business teams to gather and instrument requirements

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

    • Minimum of 4 years’ experience with 3+ years relevant experience in a similar Technical Specialist or Application / Production support role; and
    • Experience in supporting Integrations applications e.g. MSMQ, Biztalk, Talend, LinkManager, XCOM; and
    • Experience of Windows command scripting languages e.g. PowerShell, VB Script, JavaScript Windows CMD, ASCI XLNT; or
    • Unix / Linux command scripting languages; or
    • IBM command scripting languages e.g. JCL, CLIST
    • Must be a UK/RoI/EU citizen or possess a current UK visa and eligible to take up full time, permanent employment. EU candidates must also demonstrate they are eligible to take up UK employment post-Brexit.

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

    • Previous experience of system administration or database administration
    • Experience supporting business applications used in the insurance industry
    • Knowledge of problem solving techniques, IT system monitoring tools, job scheduling, batch processing, root cause analysis, ITIL framework
