    Your role in the team

    Allstate Business Insurance (ABI) are rolling out a new platform to support our Transformative Growth plans.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a growth area that will help to expand your skill base and give you the opportunity to grow and develop in a new platform.

    We are helping build the next generation Insurance Engine for ABI and have an opportunity for several Full Stack Software Engineers to join this new team.

    The successful candidates will attend Duck Creek University (virtual training) and will be part of a team to design, develop, troubleshoot, debug, and implement Duck Creek Rating & Policy to build new insurance products and lines of business that meet all business & technical requirements for ABI. 

    Although the desired skills and experience are extensive, they are not essential.  The successful candidate must have the knowledge and willingness to learn new skills and adapt to the changing environment.

     

    • Participate in product scoping, discovery and framing, and inceptions providing technical input and helps translate user features into system design
    • Participates and can learn to lead inceptions and iteration planning meetings, infusing backlogs with technical input working in close partnership with the product manager
    • Participates in daily site, cross-site, and product team standups
    • Participates in retrospectives; demonstrating and encouraging each participant to provide feedback with empathy
    • Participates and collaborates with the Principal engineer in the effort of shaping the architecture and design of the product
    • Collaborates on strategy across product portfolios in partnership with product managers, other peers and key stakeholders
    • Distinguished advocate of multiple technology stacks and shares that knowledge across organizations
    • Actively uses paired programming and test-driven development in writing software and building products
    • Establishes continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and practices
    • Participates in knowledge sharing and contributes to the overall growth of the collective knowledge across various AOR’s
    • Understands the technical details, integration, and functions of a Commercial Lines SaaS application 

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

    • Must be a UK/RoI/EU citizen or possess a current UK visa and eligible to take up full time, permanent employment. EU candidates must also demonstrate they are eligible to take up UK employment post-Brexit.
    • 3+ years’ experience of developing and implementing systems at scale
    • Be detail oriented with an ability to work accurately and efficiently under pressure
    • Be forward thinking and innovative
    • A college degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or similar field, including a solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals and object-oriented design principles

    We also have some desirable criteria

    • Ability to quickly learn new languages and acquire knowledge of the various development tools, languages and processes. 
    • Experience working in an eXtreme Programming (XP) or agile environment; experienced working in a paired programming/engineering model
    • Experience in Test Driven Development; including knowledge and experience in testing frameworks
    • Familiarity with open source software
    • Able to learn new technologies, and teach other members of the team/s
    • Able to work effectively across organizational and geographical boundaries
    • Preferred experience developing software in different programming languages, and demonstrated ability to quickly learn new languages, including but not limited to JavaScript, Java (Spring), .NET, Ruby, Python, Golang, and JavaScript, Tibco, Configuration of a 3rd party SAAS platform. 
    • A suitable candidate is an experienced manuscript developer with good knowledge of Microsoft.NET programming, XML/XSL, ASP.NET, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL Server Database etc.
    • Experience and knowledge in developing REST APIs including tooling for documentation (swagger, REST-docs, openapi spec), versioning, service discovery/registration, testing and management; experience using API gateways and API Gateway configurations such as Apigee or Layer 7
    • Experience and knowledge in web and API security including authentication, authorization, OAuth, OWASP, OpenID, and SAML
    • Experience or knowledge in backend development design and implementation; database (relational, NoSQL, caching), messaging and big data development, implementation and optimization
    • Experience or knowledge in responsive web front end / single page application development using modular JavaScript including apps targeted for mobile devices
    • Experience or knowledge on modern JavaScript tools such as Webpack, Babel, ESLint, Gulp, NPM, Bower, Browserify, Grunt and similar technologies
    • Experience developing continuous integration, continuous delivery and continuous deployment pipelines for distributed apps
    • Knowledge using distributed version control systems (git), artifact management systems, build and packaging systems (maven, gradle, npm, artifactory, etc…) and continuous integration tools (Jenkins, TravisCI, Concourse, Bamboo, GoCD).
    • Knowledge and experience on approaches and tools for automated testing and monitoring
    • Experience with Tibco BW
    • Team player that puts the success of the team ahead of their personal success
