UX Designer

• The role

  We want a passionate and creative UI/UX Designer who wants to create world class mobile experiences.  We want someone who understands what it takes to deliver exceptional customer experiences through front end apps, and who is motivated to learn new skills along the way.

  Our mobile application is at the forefront of our digital strategy, leading the way for design led product thinking that puts end users first.  Our ideal candidate should have an eye for clean and artful design, possess unparalleled design skills, and be able to translate business problems into intuitive experiences and interaction flows.

  About the team 

  One of the first high-performing teams we have established is responsible for developing one of Aflac’s flagship mobile apps: Aflac Agent Hub.  Agent Hub is used by Aflac’s sales producers who work across the USA, selling our products and supporting our customers in their greatest time of need, when they need to make a claim.  The app allows our field force to be more mobile than ever, accessing sales performance data, and supporting policyholders whilst they are on the move.

  We are in our second wave of recruitment to further build out our mobile app development team in Belfast, using Agile development practices to ensure we build high-quality software that puts our customers and agents at the heart of the solution.  In addition to adding a UX designer to our team we are fully functional with leadership, application development, API development, data engineering, and testing capability all located in Northern Ireland, and supported by project SMEs in the United States. 

  The team leverages design-thinking, and a customer experience persona-based approach, developing user stories and wireframes that can be leveraged not only for the app build, but also to ensure our business stakeholders understand what is being developed, and what is coming next.

  What you'll be doing 

  • Produce creative, user centric app designs, user flows and design support for our application 
  • Support the Product Owner and wider team on UX/UI strategy, idea generation and design 
  • Working hand on with developers to challenge art of the possible and encourage seamless user experiences 
  • Create low and high-fidelity design solutions for mobile user interfaces  
  • Facilitating design led thinking sessions with our product team including Product Owner, development team and end users 
  • Own the creation of all design assets for the team including UX designs, video edits, sales materials etc. 
  • Having some fun along the way! 

  What you should have-don't worry if you don't have it all

  Below is an overview of the skills and experience we are looking for, but remember, don’t rule yourself out if you don’t have everything on the list – it’s your intellect and your attitude we are really after. 

  Essential

  • 3+ years working as a mobile app UX/UI designer across both Android and iOS 
  • Passionate about designing user interfaces that are beautiful, easy to use and add value to the end customer  
  • Strong hands on design experience and proficiency using design tools e.g. Sketch (this is what we currently use), Photoshop, Illustrator, Zeplin, Adobe XDor the like 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to work well within a team environment, maximising the different strengths across the team 
  • Be able to demonstrate how you remain up-to-date with the latest UI/UX trends, techniques, technologies and user psychology 
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a digital design related subject. Comparable commercial experience may also be considered

  Desirable

  • ​​Experience or ability in video editing, animation and photography in addition to UX/UI design
  • Experience of delivering as part of an Agile team for customers/clients located in different time zones
  • Other valuable technologies: Invision, After Effects, Premier Pro, Visio, PowerPoint (obviously!)
