    Job Description


    The Allstate NI Mobile Technology Team partners with technology and business stakeholders to contribute to and support the Allstate Corporation’s Mobile Technology Strategy. This strategy centers on developing mobile applications, SMS and social media solutions in support of our business objectives. 


    In your role as a Senior Android developer, you will leverage your previous application design and development experience to build best-in-class mobile applications. Furthermore, your passion for user-interface design will enhance the mobile experience for Allstate consumers across the US and beyond.


    You will lead the development of innovative, world-class projects. You will draw on insurance and wider industry and technology best-practice in the execution of your role and have opportunities to further build your technical skills.



    Responsibilities include (but aren't limited to):


    • Oversee and develop the area strategy and manage complex designs
    • Contribute to technology strategy and engineering roadmaps
    • Initiate and implement continuous improvements in all areas of development responsibility
    • Anticipates issues and develops preventative measures
    • Analyses long-term impact of new or anticipated strategies and contributes to overall area strategy.
    • Manage workloads in an Agile development environment coupled with coaching of more junior team members in Agile principles and practices
    • Engage appropriate stakeholders in risk identification and mitigation
    • Work in an Agile Scrum Methodology
    • Populate Version One (JIRA Replacement) with backlog items.
    • Evaluate detailed business, functional, and high-level technical requirements to create User Stories.
    • Knowledge of Jenkins, Confluence.
    • Conduct and Lead structured code reviews to ensure standards and systems interoperability.
    • Implement detailed technical components with high-level architecture, applying reusability and up to date development techniques. 
    • Provide Technical leadership in designing and writing Automated Unit and Functional tests
    • Participate in the strategic direction of the Mocking services platform.
    • Provide technical leadership, guidance and provide future enhancement direction for the apps.
    • Peer review and critique team members’ code.
    • Provide mentoring and guidance across multiple scrum teams.

    Essential Criteria


    • Must be an EU citizen or possess a current UK Tier 1 Visa or Tier 2 visa and eligible to take up full time, permanent employment. EU candidates must also demonstrate they are eligible to take up UK employment post-Brexit.
    • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a technical lead role – some of which would ideally have been within an agile environment; and
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in software development with Android and
    • Experience developing/consuming Web Services and
    • Experience utilizing open source libraries and re-usable components; and
    • Understanding of Test-Driven Development (TDD), Continuous integration and deployment such as Jenkins, GitHub, Octopus Deploy; and
    • Strong knowledge of web development industry standards and best practices; and
    • Experience with delivering using Agile methodology practices; and
    • Strong knowledge of design patterns, automated testing patterns and tools.



    Desirable Criteria


    • Experience of cloud technologies like AWS, Azure
    • Knowledge of security (risks and threats, authentication, authorization, certificates, encryption)
    • Familiarity with Agile backlog management tools such as Version One / JIRA / Confluence, TFS
    • Experience in mobile development with iOS
    • Kotlin experience
    • Experience with Frameworks and libraries such as Dagger, Retrofit, Robolectric
    • Experience with Gradle
    • Experience with Git
