    The Role

    Proofpoint is seeking a Pre-Sales Support Engineer to join our growing Systems Engineering team. The role will demand interaction with large scale enterprises at senior levels, as well as with technical staff within the traditional IT organization.  The successful candidate will have sound technical experience and skills, blended with strong interpersonal and presentational skills. This is a technical support role within the Sales organization with little to no travel. The candidate will solve issues directly with customers as well as provide 2nd level support for Sales Engineers in the field.

    Your day-to-day

    • This is a technical support role that also requires a strong sales engineer focus.
    • Work daily in the Linux environment. Must be very comfortable with commands used for copying/editing files searching logs/files/folders, monitoring network traffic and scripting.
    • With your strong background in email and network administration, you will configure Proofpoint Products to connect in-flow with Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, Lotus Domino, Google Apps, Postini and other email products.
    • Take ownership of incoming pre-sales calls created by customers, sales representatives, and sales engineers. Must document each call and customer issue with detailed information.
    • Solve issues directly with customers and provide 2nd level "helpdesk” support to sales engineers in the field via phone, chat, email and Webex.
    • Provide backup to sales engineers and work directly with customers on installations, configuration changes, and cutting over production email.
    • Responsible for managing and improving the SE Lab and Demo Lab (VMware), including scripts, new hardware, and new software solutions.
    • Liaison for escalations from pre-sales customers, sales representatives, and sales engineers to Engineering or SAS Operations for resolution.
    • Proactive in creating new Wiki and Knowledgebase articles.

    What you bring to the team

    • Industry experience in a customer-facing technical field such as technical support or sales engineering.
    • Strong messaging infrastructure system administration experience (Sendmail knowledge is a plus).
    • Detailed hands-on knowledge and experience of Linux, vast knowledge of commands for searching logs, scripting, etc.
    • Broad technical knowledge of Internet products and technologies.
    • A thorough understanding of Internet protocols and how they work, particularly HTTP, SMTP, RFC822, LDAP, PKI.
    • Knowledge of networking topology, TCP/IP protocol, network configuration and components (firewalls, routers, etc.)
    • A good understanding of the sales process and the roles and responsibilities of a sales engineer.
    • Must have very good written and oral skills.
    • English speaker required and multiple language skills a plus.
    • Strong technical presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Demonstrated ability to present and explain technology to people with less technical knowledge.
    • Working in office is required, but working from home can be allowed periodically as arranged with manager. During first year when learning all products and processes this is especially important.
    • Must be able to thrive in a fast paced, high stress start up environment.
    • Ability to work independently, ability to adapt quickly, positive attitude.
    • High attention to detail.
    • Scripting capabilities, specifically Perl and shell scripting.
    • Work history shows knowledge of SQL databases, Apache, HTTP, DNS, and LDAP.
    • Work history shows background of working with email, secure email, Microsoft Exchange, or Lotus Domino.
    • A background in Professional Services is a plus.
