    This opportunity is to be part of the Allstate Business Lines Enablement (ABLE) Technology division as a SQL DBA working alongside our development teams creating software solutions for Answer Financial, an Allstate family company.

    Job Description

    You will bring a good understanding of existing database technologies, be self-motivated to stay abreast of database technology trends, and bring insights on how various database technologies could be used to further enhance Answer Financial.

    You will be responsible for database-related activity, including design, code review, performance tuning, SQL scripting, hardware, and software.  Working closely with other server team members on Windows, Active Directory, security, infrastructure components, change management and other tasks/projects.

    You will have an opportunity to enhance your technical skills across a wide range of areas and pioneer new technology. You can quickly diagnose and resolve problems, you can spot why a database is behaving badly in a heartbeat, and you can collaborate with developers to resolve code versus infrastructure conflicts.

    As a DBA here at Allstate Northern Ireland we want you to be able to take control, so we work to the “Freedom of Action” principle, with the decisions for action being taken by those closest to the work.     Responsibilities include (but aren't limited to):

    • Ensure production databases are online, maintained, optimized, patched, secured and backed up.  Duties also include SQL server hardware/software design and planning, database replication/mirroring, file grouping, clustering, disaster recovery, encryption, stored procedure creation/review, and data scrubbing.
    • Participate in day-to-day server administration (user accounts, permissions, Help Desk tickets, reports, and security tasks) and updates/upgrades/maintenance to production servers.;
    • Day-to-day administration & support of production, infrastructure, & Dev/Test environments.
    • Participate in and abide by company security activities, polices, audits, procedures; including SOX and internal audit activities.
    • Participate in code releases and infrastructure deployments (some of which may involve after-hours work)
    • Participate in and abide by company security activities, polices, audits, procedures; including SOX and internal audit activities.
    • Participate in our change management process for both implementation and enforcement.

    Essential Criteria

    • Must be an EU citizen or possess a current UK Tier 1 Visa or Tier 2 visa and eligible to take up full time, permanent employment. EU candidates must also demonstrate they are eligible to take up UK employment post-Brexit.
    • At least 4 years’ experience of database technology admin/development including 3 years of Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2016/2017 (MS SQL clusters); and
    • Experience with all aspects of SQL database administration, including performance tuning, securing SQL servers, and writing complex stored procedures; and
    • Technical certifications in Microsoft SQL;

    Desirable Criteria

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is desired.
    • Experience with SQL and data warehousing in the cloud (MS Azure).
    • Knowledge of disk IOPS, RAID, and TCP/IP networking.
    • Working experience of SSRS, SSAS and SSIS development, administration and troubleshooting; and
    • Working experience with Windows server 2012/2016/2019 Server administration; experience as an Active Directory domain administrator
    • Experience with Tableau administration.
    • Experience with PowerShell scripting.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.  Ability to communicate proposals to management as well as detailed technical requirements to developers or administrators.
    • Attention to detail and good troubleshooting skills.
