    Job Description

    Executing over 30 billion transactions a day worldwide, IBM Z is critical to Allstate databases, transaction servers, and applications that require high reliability, scalability, compatibility and security. Allstate’s IBM Z (Mainframe) Engineers develop technical solutions which enable our business partners, customers, agents, and employees to reach and exceed their goals.

    We’re looking for a resource who can work with engineers and clients to optimize the enterprise mainframe performance

    We’re looking for strategic, innovative thinkers who excel at providing fresh, creative solutions.

    Responsibilities include (but aren't limited to):

    • Manages the enterprise mainframe server strategy and capacity planning functions including the configuration, maintenance and implementation of mainframe servers in a multi datacenter, multi sysplex environment.
    • Maintains WLM policy definitions, capacity provisioning manager (CPM) thresholds, assesses sub-systems (DB2, IMS, CICS) and application systems performance and monitors server utilization.
    • Prepares and reviews regular health check reporting identifying trends and takes appropriate actions
    • Drives strategy for mainframe performance by researching and exploiting new technology and capabilities.
    • Ability to work closely with mainframe infrastructure teams and business application clients to resolve complex performance issues
    • Identifies performance tuning and configuration options opportunities to ensure the mainframe systems are running in the most efficient and cost-effective manner
    • Controlling cost by targeting performance tuning for high usage system and application components and use of mainframe configuration options.
    • Undertake impact analysis of business initiatives which may impact mainframe capacity utilization.

    Essential Criteria

    • Must be an EU citizen or possess a current UK Tier 1 Visa or Tier 2 visa and eligible to take up full time, permanent employment. EU candidates must also demonstrate they are eligible to take up UK employment post-Brexit.
    • Strong statistical and analytical skills with extensive knowledge and understanding of Mainframe capacity, workload planning concepts, analysis and be able to undertake capacity forecasting
    • At least a minimum of 5 years’ experience of capacity planning, performance tuning in the zOS multi sysplex architecture and Workload Manager (WLM)
    • In-depth knowledge of RMF, SMF, Omegamon, Tivoli Decision Support, MXG, IBM Capacity Products
    • Good knowledge of MF Subsystems CICS, MQ, IMS and DB2

    Desirable Criteria

    • Experience of IBM CICS Performance Tools
    • Experience of vendor management
