Lead support engineer

  • PwC Operate is seeking a talented Support Lead to join our rapidly growing Technology team based in Belfast. Operate Technology is dedicated to researching, developing, testing, implementing and supporting innovative technology solutions for the wider PwC organisation and its clients and stakeholders.

    As the Lead Technical Support Engineer, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable exposure to modern technologies including; Robotic Process Automation, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing and Software Development.

    This role will need someone who is technically minded, innovative and able to come up with creative solutions to complex problems. An analytical thinker capable of decision making when under pressure; you will be well organised with a technical bias and able to manage your time between hands on technical work and managing a team of engineers.

    This person will be responsible for providing ongoing technical support and interacting with key PwC Operate clients and stakeholders, therefore excellent communication skills are vital to be successful in this position.

    Responsibilities
    • Providing technical support professionally and efficiently, maintaining a high degree of customer service.

    • Supporting client environments and taking ownership of complex problems, performing technical diagnosis and fixing issues.

    • Involvement in the overall incident, problem, change and release management processes as well as request fulfillment.

    • Liaising with external vendor support whenever problems cannot be resolved in house

    • Onboarding clients; installing and configuring applications according to client requirements and loading client data where relevant.

    • Scheduling and upgrading all production and UAT environments with new software releases.

    • Continuous monitoring of the health of production environments.

    • Scaling the support function by hiring and ensuring robust processes in place

    • Building support proposals and promoting the function.

    Required Skills
    • Significant experience across technology and leading at a senior level in a support function.

    • Application support experience (preferably web-based software/applications)

    • Experience of working with relational databases (SQL)

    • Experience with any modern language e.g. .NET, C#, Java or Python (capable of understanding code and identifying issues)

    • Knowledge of cloud technologies mainly Azure but also Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

    • Management of a team to ensure a high quality of service delivery

    Desirable Skills
    • Experience in supporting applications with some specific knowledge of either the Microsoft or Linux environment

    • Experience of supporting web applications running in a java servlet container (such as Apache Tomcat or others)

    • Knowledge of Service Management processes - Release, Change, Event, Incident and Problem Management (ITIL / ISO20000)

    • Experience using IT Service Management tools such as ServiceNow or JIRA

    • Experience with web design / scripting languages (including HTML, CSS, Angular and JQuery)

    • Knowledge of the quality assurance stage of software development and deployment

    • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL (SQL scripts, and Stored Procedures and Databases) or similar database system

    • Experience with log management tools such as Splunk

    • RPA or low code platforms

    • Data tools (Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau)

    This unique opportunity is in a highly accessible location, only a short walk from Lanyon Place train station. Occasional travel to PwC regional offices may be required in this role.
