    Job Description

    We are pleased to announce a new senior ETL developer opening within Information Services Group (ISG).

    This is an opportunity to join the ISG ETL COE team as a senior ETL (Ab Initio) developer. This team provides a number of delivery services for Allstate including –

    • Supporting the ETL Policy processes
    • Providing ETL COE guidelines for all client areas in Allstate and providing consultancy for new projects
    • Delivering ETL Support and Ab Initio development for projects.

    The specific role that will be filled is multi-functional, requiring a blend of Ab-I/Unix skills but support experience is also important. As mentioned above, the core ETL product used is Ab Initio which runs on Linux with the Data Warehouse database located on an Oracle Exadata Appliance. As a senior developer, you would be expected to take technical ownership of one or more of the teams’ applications and be responsible for delivering changes, either as an individual or leading a small team of junior developers. You would also design, build, deploy and maintain new applications.

    Responsibilities include (but aren't limited to):

    • Strong understanding of Data Warehousing, ETL concepts.
    • Strong troubleshooting experience in Ab Initio.
    • Experience in performance tuning of both ab initio, UNIX and Oracle database environments
    • Knowledge of ab initio code migration activities
    • Strong knowledge of design and building new ETL applications in order to support developers, QC engineers and to populate the Enterprise Data Warehouse, based on customer requirements.
    • Must be able to lead and enforce defined technical standards, as well as contributing to and creating new standards.
    • Need to be able to work independently without significant supervision and you must be a team-oriented individual with a results-driven attitude.
    • Be able to work cross functionally with a variety of internal IT organizations, DBA team, Testing team, other developers, external vendors / consultants and the management team in a fast-paced environment.
    • Professionally deliver status updates to both the management team as well as other project resources.
    • Creates and improves technical processes within project under direction.
    • Provides expert technical input to project risk, dependency, and assumption, change control and query/issue resolution discussions.
    • Carries out any other duties that may reasonably be required from time to time.
    • Lead development teams containing junior developers.
    • Mentor junior team members.

    Hours of work

    • Standard hours Mon – Fri;
    • On call rota for patch upgrades / maintenance and Disaster Recovery exercise.
    • Flexibility to meet business needs as required;

    Essential Criteria

    • Must be an EU citizen or possess a current UK Tier 1 Visa or Tier 2 visa and eligible to take up full time, permanent employment. EU candidates must also demonstrate they are eligible to take up UK employment post-Brexit.
    • 4+ years Software Development/Full Life Cycle Development Process experience, with at least two of these using Ab Initio ETL toolset.
    • At least 2 years relational database experience programming in SQL
    • At least 2 years NIX experience (i.e. shell scripting)
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Self-starter who is able to work unsupervised
    • Full lifecycle Data Warehouse experience including star schema, dimensional data models and ETL.

    Desirable Criteria

    • Oracle RDBMS, PL/SQL.
    • Hadoop, Impala, Scala, Hive and Python skills a plus
