    Job Description

    As a platform engineer in the CompoZed lab at Allstate you will be managing and growing our cloud development environment (currently four environments balanced across two global availability zones). In addition, you will be focused on building and deploying self-service tools that enable the CompoZed development teams to build, deploy and operate cloud native applications faster and more efficiently pushing code into production with ever increasing velocity.

    This unique role is ideal for someone with an interest in building out and maintaining cloud native platforms while also using programming or scripting skills to simplify the interface to the platform for developers to reduce the time to get code into production use.

    CompoZed is an innovative group setup within Allstate to focus on transforming the business by moving from traditional solutions to cloud native solutions that accelerate business growth by leveraging a DevOps environment to deliver solutions rapidly.

    The foundation of the CompoZed lab is rapid deployment via continuous delivery of software solutions into production using an Agile XP methodology with a drive to script and automate manual process to continuously reduce process variances and drive down delivery times. In addition, continuous learning is part of a normal day in the lab with regular time set aside for individual or group development.

    Essential Criteria

    • Knowledge of Linux ideally ubuntu
    • Experience with virtualized infrastructure (VMWare, AWS, Azure or GCP)
    • Clear evidence of troubleshooting and resolving issues in an application or PaaS environment
    • Strong experience of service restoration activities covering web front end, Systems, Databases and Networks (at least one of these areas is required)
    • Ability to code or script automation in at least one language (Java, Go, Python, Ruby, Perl, bash, etc.) on Linux-based platforms
    • Experience with Systems, Application and Network performance/availability monitoring and analysis
    • Solid written and verbal communications skills
    • Expertise in problem solving and analysing global scale distributed systems
    • Degree preferably in an IT related discipline or 2 years relevant working experience 
    • Proven experience working with infrastructure components (operating systems, compute, storage, networking, distributed systems, big data, cloud, containers, etc.) and solid understanding of the rest and how they impact services
    • Must be an EU citizen or possess a current UK Tier 1 Visa or Tier 2 visa and eligible to take up full time, permanent employment

     Hours of Work

    • This is a full time (37.5 hours per week) role based in the Belfast office

     Travel requirements

    •  Onsite transition (if required; maximum of 4 weeks)
    • Flexibility required
