The Role
As a Senior Service Reliability Engineer at Proofpoint you will be responsible for provisioning, maintaining and scaling our production services and server farms across multiple data centers. You will contribute to the architecture to improve scalability, service reliability, capacity and performance. You will write automation code for provisioning and operating this infrastructure at massive scale. You will work with development and QA on building pipelines and automation for delivering and deploying production applications to this infrastructure.

Your day-to-day
- Install, configure and upgrade nodes in high availability customer production clusters
- Deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting of production shared storage infrastructure
- Manage an international 24x7, multi-site production infrastructure powering the Proofpoint services, including deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance tuning and security
- Ensure proper monitoring, alerting, capacity planning and reporting in the production environment
- Contribute to the evolving design and architecture of reliable and scalable infrastructure
- Collaborate with product engineering teams to ensure Operations standards are observed, determine resource impacts for upcoming product deployments and ensure successful product rollouts
- Develop processes, tools and documentation in support of production operations
- Evaluate new software, hardware and infrastructure solutions
- Participate in an on-call rotation and be willing to jump on escalated issues as needed
What you bring to the team
- Demonstrable substantial experience managing, troubleshooting and tuning Linux systems
- Must have experience with enterprise storage technologies – Nimble, 3Par, NetApp, VSA or similar
- Prefer experience automating management of systems and applications using Perl, Python, PowerCLI or Ruby is desired
- Experience with industry-standard foundation technologies such as DNS, SMTP, NTP, LDAP and NFS
- Experience in management of a large distributed computing environment
- Must have experience with virtualization - VMware vSphere, ESX, ESXi, and vCenter, Open Stack and KVM
- Operational Experience with cloud storage technologies is desired – Cinder, Swift, S3, CEPH or similar
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with monitoring and alerting systems
- Experience with industry-standard operational practices such as change management, incident management and working in colocation datacenters
- Experience using Puppet or Chef
- Experience with load-balancing technologies – F5, Netscaler or similar
- Experience with public cloud providers such as Amazon EC2 or Rackspace Cloud
