  Job Description

  We are seeking Java programmers to be part of our dynamic global team in one of our most critical customer facing applications.  Supporting these global applications may also give you the opportunity to travel.

  The role will allow you to specialize in building responsive web applications that scale to millions of customers, while working with a team of like-minded high-calibre developers to translate user requirements into a working application.  You will be routinely designing complex solutions to business needs and also be responsible for supporting the development of your team. 

  You will work as part of a very large Java Application development community with over 700 technologists working on an extremely large & complex platform using the most modern tools & techniques.  

  Responsibilities include (but aren't limited to): 

  • Mentor, coach and provide on-the–job training for other team members in relevant technologies and/or processes including the creation and improvement of training materials
  • Create and improve technical processes in consultation with a technical leadership group
  • Formulate technical responses and strategies to meet business requirements
  • Liaise with stakeholders to resolve technical challenges and build solutions
  • Prepare and execute all phases of the SDLC to agreed standards and specifications
  • Perform a pivotal role in quality reviews and code walkthroughs
  • Drive improvement and innovation across the business area
  • Provide out-of-hours support for critical applications as and when required

  
  Essential Criteria 

  • 2 years+ development experience
  • Commercial Java/J2EE experience in development and implementation of web based transactional applications using EJB, Servlets, or Web services
  • Test Driven Development (TDD) using JUnits or equivalent
  • Experience of using JSP, HTML or Java Script to build a UI
  • Experience of using relational databases
  • Object Oriented Programming and Design patterns
  • SOAP/Restful Web Services
  • Knowledge of XML and JSON
  • Must be an EU citizen or possess a current UK Tier 1 Visa or Tier 2 visa and eligible to take up full time, permanent employment

   
  Desirable Criteria 

  • Spring framework
  • Jersey framework (JAX-RS & JAXB)
  • Working knowledge of Websphere, WebSphere liberty or other Java EE servers
  • PL-SQL (Oracle)
  • Experience in working in an Agile environment
  • Knowledge of systems that support Continuous Integration (CI systems) - GitHub, Maven, Jenkins
  • REACT or Angular Javascript frameworks
  • Static Code Analysis Tools (E.g. PMD)
  • Degree (IT preferable) or where no degree held 5 years relevant experience
  • ITIL Experience or similar production support experience
