Tech & Entrepreneurship growth in NI - building an inclusive ecosystem

Taking place during NI Science Festival 2021, in this final part of a series of 3 interconnected virtual events examining the diversity of talent and where we can expect growth to stem from in NI, our third 1 hr 15 min discussion focuses on the booming tech industry in NI.

We discuss:

  • How we can create more inclusion in the tech startup sector
  • What initiatives in NI and further afield could help us to develop an even more innovative and inclusive tech and startup sector

This 1 hr 15 min event features 1 Keynote, 1 Panel discussion and 1 relevant tech startup showcase.

Speakers and panelists include:

Dr. Jayne Brady MBE, Belfast Digital Innovation Commissioner and Chair of BRCD Digital Pillar, and a member of the new UK Innovation Expert Group.

Naomi Timperley, Co Founder of Tech North Advocates. Growth and Innovation Consultant. Proud to be in the top 50 Computer Weekly Most Influential Women in UK IT 2018, 2019 and 2020. Programme lead at FreelancerHER 100. Naomi has extensive experience working with startups and growth businesses particularly in the tech, digital and creative sectors.

Carol Fitzsimons, Chief Executive of Young Enterprise NI since 2009. Having previously specialised in learning & development in the private sector, she is a strong advocate for the benefits of providing young people with the opportunity to develop business and entrepreneurship skills at a young age. She is committed to providing young people in NI with the best preparation for success in the new economy and was awarded the MBE for services to Enterprise and Entrepreneurship in 2016.

Nial Borthistle, Business Development & Community Manager for Glandore, Ireland’s leading Flexible Workspace Provider helping companies from both NI and abroad to grow by offering flexible and collaborative workplace solutions and facilitating connections between their Glandore Network and the wider business community. Glandore Belfast has been supporting companies since 2006 and is home to over 40 companies covering scaling start-ups, SME’s and international FDI.

Kwaku Dapaah is an entrepreneur, podcaster and programme manager from south London. He is co-founder of Dapaah Chocolates; an award-winning, artisanal chocolate brand and co-host of the award-winning Over The Bridge Podcast. Kwaku also manages FoundersDoor; a startup incubator which supports founders from underrepresented backgrounds to launch and scale their businesses.

Dr. Elizabeth Gilligan, CEO/ Co-Founder at Material Evolution. Self-proclaimed material wizard- changing the concrete industry. She is passionate about climate-changing technology.
