Artificial Intelligence: Priceless or Perilous?

Connect at Catalyst Inc are pleased to announce the launch of a unique learning and networking programme for Northern Ireland – The 4th Industrial Revolution Challenge.

Working with Northern Ireland’s top academic research professors, most innovative corporations and leaders from our startup community, we have assembled Connect Shapers – a group of people who have demonstrated brilliance in their field and a restless curiosity to find answers to the biggest questions facing society. Together, the Shapers have defined the key questions arising from the 4th Industrial Revolution.

The 4th Industrial Revolution Challenge is an annual series of ten headline debates on how the following sectors: health, finance, energy, transport, government and society and food will be disrupted by accelerations in the following platform technologies: IoT, Analytics / AI, 3D printing, robotics, materials, VR, genomics, quantum computing etc.

The first event of the series will look at how the addition of artificial intelligence, or cognitive analytics, into the products and services we buy, over the next few years, is predicted to fundamentally alter the way we live, work and relate to one another.

This interactive evening will be led by the Connect Shapers and will take a business we use every day and assess the impact that artificial intelligence could have on its service, promotion, competition, supply chain and operation over the coming years – the Sandwich Shop!

You will hear three different perspectives - from a leading startup entrepreneur, a leading corporation who is heavily invested in the technology and a leading academic researcher

Emer Maguire, former winner of Famelab UK - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvYfV5iAzzU&t=453s - will moderate the first debate of the series which is taking place on Thursday 25th May from 5.30pm to 7.45pm at The Playhouse in Derry/Londonderry. The event will be followed by a ‘Happy Hour’ where you will be able to continue the discussions.

What is the 4th Industrial Revolution?

Klaus Schwab, Founder and Chairman World Economic Forum wrote about the Fourth Industrial Revolution - ‘We stand on the brink of a technological revolution that will fundamentally alter the way we live, work, and relate to one another. In its scale, scope, and complexity, the transformation will be unlike anything humankind has experienced before. We do not yet know just how it will unfold, but one thing is clear: the response to it must be integrated and comprehensive, involving all stakeholders of the global polity, from the public and private sectors to academia and civil society’
