Baker McKenzie law firm expanding, creating new IT roles in Belfast

  • US law firm Baker McKenzie is set to expand its Belfast office, creating 150 new posts that include support roles in IT and marketing.

It is not yet clear how many of the 150 new roles will be IT positions.

The company, which came to Northern Ireland in 2014 and employs 300 people currently, said the expansion "underscores our commitment" to the city.

As part of the expansion, it will take up a new office in City Quays 2, while retaining its existing floor space in City Quays 1.

The Belfast office's Executive Director James Richards said: "Our lawyers and professional staff around the globe have been really impressed at what we have created in Belfast. The growth of our office has been a remarkable success story."

When Baker McKenzie first came to Belfast four years ago, the firm claimed it would pay an average salary of £31,000.

It is one of several global professional services companies attracted to the city by Northern Ireland's cost-effectiveness in terms of overheads and salaries.
