Customer data challenges lie ahead for Belfast businesses

  • Ulster Bank brought its Boost Bites roadshow of events to Belfast City Hall recently to help local businesses better equip themselves in a digital economy as the May 2018 deadline for general data protection regulations (GDPR) nears.

‘Boost Bites’ is a series of free-to-attend business-focused events covering topics including cyber security, GDPR, growing your business and challenges in doing so, and much more.

The Belfast City Hall event took place on Wednesday, February 21.

Run in partnership with Belfast City Council and supported by Entrepreneurial Spark, attendees heard insight into preparing for GDPR and how the upcoming regulations could affect your business.

Keynote speaker Anna Flanagan, Litigation and Regulatory Associate at Pinset Masons, shared her experience and insights from working with clients ahead of the GDPR deadline. In her role, Anna assists clients with data protection audits, contract remediation, training, policy updates and advice in preparing for GDPR.

Contributing to the discussion, Anna was joined by a number of other panellists including Gary Robinson, founder and CEO of Uleska, and Philip Bain, Director and Co-Owner of Shredbank.

Lisa McCaul, Business Growth Enabler for the north of Northern Ireland at Ulster Bank, explains:

“Ulster Bank Boost was created to support local business owners across Northern Ireland to provide them with the tools, knowledge and networks to grow.

“Beyond providing first-rate business banking services, events like this one in our upcoming Ulster Bank Boost event series across Northern Ireland will provide local business owners with insight into upcoming regulation changes that might impact how they do business.

“With just under four months now until the new GDPR regulations come into effect, it is hoped that local business owners are taking the necessary steps to ensure GDPR compliance. However, we hope that this event in partnership with Belfast City Council and Entrepreneurial Spark on the changes ahead has shed some light for local business owners and support them to adjust how they use and store customer data and information.”

First launched in 2017, Ulster Bank’s Boost initiative aims to support small businesses through a series of talks and events, access to insight, expertise and networking opportunities.
