Games NI virtual meetup on May 13th to explore game development from home

  • Games NI's virtual meetup next week will explore recent NI games industry news, highlight job opportunities, and ask the question: Is remote working the future of the NI games industry?

The Northern Ireland games industry was affected by the coronavirus lockdown just like every other part of the tech sector, but with one key difference: For many game developers here, working from home was already a way of life. Derry-based studio Hypixel Studios focuses on remote staff, and many of the other studios were early start-ups that originally began as remote work.

Games NI has announced that its next meetup will also be held virtually, taking place next week on Wednesday May 13th from 6PM to 9PM over video conferencing service Zoom. The event will delve into exciting recent news on the local game development industry, showcase new job opportunities for those looking to get into the games industry, and signpost new opportunities that are available for studios and students alike.

The event will feature a special panel on the topic of working remotely in the games industry. Speakers will give short 10-minute talks on the remote working strategies that work for them, followed by a short Q&A session with attendees, and then a general chat and networking session to help anyone interested in game development to make contacts in the local industry.

The event is free and open to the public, and anyone interested in keeping up with the current state of NI game development is encouraged to attend, with up to 100 spaces available. Head over to the event's official Eventbrite page to register your interest and get a ticket for the event.
