Catalyst launches £33,000 Invent 2020 innovation competition

  • Catalyst's 2020 Invent competition has opened for applications, with £33,000 in prizes for new tech innovations and proof of concept ideas.

    The annual Invent competition and awards have become an important part of the local tech calendar, highlighting new tech innovations and proof of conept ideas that have potential for wide commercialisation. The 2020 competition is now open for applications for anyone with an idea or innovation in the following categories:

     - Life & Health Sciences

     - Enterprise Software

     - Creative Media & Consumer Internet

     - Engineering

     - Electronics

     - Agri-Science

    The winners will share a prize fund of £33,000 split between all of the categories, and gain the opportunity to showcase their idea to high-profile people in the tech and business community. Last year's winners included agricultural tech platform CropSafe, asthma-management system AirBrio, and highly exportable music gadget Signal Optimiser.

    Applications are open now until March 27th, followed by a pitching workshop and qualifying pitching rounds in April. The top four pitches in each category will advance to the Invent Semi Final on May 28th, and the top two in each category go head-to-head in the final pitching round on September 3rd. The competition culminates in the Invent Awards at ICC Belfast on October 8th, where the winners will be announced.
