Translink announces Christmas deals to boost Belfast City Centre footfall

  •

Translink has announced increased late-night bus services and Christmas pricing to help improve business footfall in Belfast City Centre.

Last year's Christmas season in Belfast City Centre saw footfall disrupted for some businesses by road closures caused by the Primark fire. Some parts of the city benefitted from reduced road traffic and space to throw festive events, while others saw footfall drop off dramatically as easy access to their stores was cut.

Regular traffic and bus routes returned this summer, but footfall won't be far from any city centre business owner's mind this Christmas. To help boost shopping hours and traffic in Belfast, Translink has put together additional late night bus and train services along with special discounted rates for those involved in some late-night shopping.

Late night trains will be returning from Belfast to Lisburn, Portadown, Bangor, Coleraine, and Larne on Fridays and Saturdays from November 29th to December 21st, in addition to extended midnight and 1AM Metro services. Free parking and extended opening hours are also available at certain Park & Ride sites.

Prices will be taking a dip all the way to the new year, with a £3 unlimited day travel ticket for the entire Metro and Glider network available after 9:30am or a discounted £2.50 evening ticket after 6:30pm for evening shoppers. Other deals will also be making a return, such as reduced prices on Family and Friends tickets and one-third-off day returns will be running across the Ulsterbus, Goldline, and NI Railways network.

Translink Group Chief Executive Chris Conway was excited to announce the package: "Our widespread service enhancements, late night services and fantastic choice of discount tickets will hopefully help cut the cost of Christmas, support local traders and offer hassle-free journeys over the festive season."
