Rocwell Water is releasing a new reusable ‘Roc Bottle’ to help tackle the planet’s plastic problem.

Following the likes of other water bottle brands such as Chilly’s and Hydro Flask, Brian Patrick Quinn of Rocwell Water is keen to emphasise that the new product is part of the company’s on-going commitment to reduce negative environmental impact.

The Roc Bottle concept has been in development for almost a year and will be available in coming weeks.

“The reason we developed the concept was to offer our customers and alternative to the standard single use cups with water coolers,” said Brian.

The product is designed to keep hot drinks warm for 12 hours, and cold liquids cool for 24 hours, so it may also be able to reduce single use cups in the workplace.

The Roc bottle will be available to the business, education and retail sectors. Brian said: “It is cost effective and the water will always be chilled. It will additionally save the waste costs of plastic bottles in the bins.”

“In terms of education we have teamed up with Eco Schools NI to offer our Roc Bottle to education campuses throughout Northern Ireland and supply water fountains to schools, which will allow pupils to refill their bottle anytime they want.”

The Roc Bottle will also be available in store to cater for the customers who want to refill on the go.

“We pride ourselves on the quality of water we provide to our customers,” said Brian.

“Rocwell Natural Mineral Water is one of the few companies in Ireland to achieve Natural Mineral Water Status as we meet all of the stringent EU, UK, Northern Ireland and Irish quality standards. Our water is naturally free from pollution, contamination and harmful micro-organisms. We have also met the same high standards required for our spring water.”

Rocwell Water’s revenues from disposable and compostable plastic cups will reduce, but Brian believes it is a price worth paying in the long run: "The company recognises we all have a responsibility to do better if we can. If we can reduce plastic and encourage people to drink more water it is good for all.”

The Roc Bottle will be available in three different sizes. It is made from food grade stainless steel, has a premium triple sealed vacuum and is leak-proof.

The reusable water bottle industry is now worth £5.5bn a year, according to the Guardian. This may be due to more media attention surrounding environmental issues and the damage single-use plastic is doing to the planet, such as scenes on David Attenborough’s “Blue Planet II” and the BBC’s campaign programme, ‘War on Plastic”. More research is now also being undertaken into the health effects of plastic
