NI retailer joins international InterSPAR Executive Committee

  • Omagh-based retailer Peter McBride has been appointed to the international InterSPAR Executive Committee by SPAR International.

With retail stores and outlets around the world and a focus on local produce, retailer SPAR has a complex organisational structure across the UK and internationally. The SPAR Ulster Guild reflects the firm's presence locally and the SPAR UK Guild focuses on SPAR across the entire UK, and on a much wider scale is the international InterSPAR Executive Committee.

The InterSPAR Executive Committe gathers twice each year to visit stores in a different host country each time, with the aim of gaining a better understanding of how each country manages its local market.

For the first time, Northern Irish retailer Peter McBride has been appointed to the InterSPAR Executive Committee, which is composed of five wholesale members from prominent SPAR countries, five retail members, and two seats held by SPAR International itself.

Peter runs 12 stores throughout Ulster and is also the President of Retail NI, with 30 years of retail experience under his belt. He's currently a SPAR Ulster Guild Board Member and was elected to the National Guild of SPAR as a Board Member in 2009.

Paddy Doody, Sales & Marketing Director at Henderson Group (owners of SPAR in Northern Ireland) spoke highly of Peter's work: "Last year, we celebrated 30 years of McBride Retail Group and honoured Peter as one of our most respected independent retailers. Over the past 30 years, the McBride Retail Group has consistently delivered for local shoppers, providing over 460 secure jobs across 12 sites."

Peter McBride commented on the appointment: "It is a true honour to be appointed to the Executive Committee, the only forum where independent SPAR retailers are represented internationally. I look forward to representing retailers at the next event."
