  • Ulster Bank has hit its target of raising over £1m for charity via its One Week in June event following a blockbuster fundraising year.

Eight years ago, Ulster Bank started up its new One Week in June fundraising programme for charity that tasks its branches with raising money each year for local charities in Northern Ireland. Branch staff participate in a variety of events to raise the funds, from cycling and sport challenges to raffles, auctions, and quiz nights.

This year the Bank has managed to raise a whopping £127, 932 from its staff's efforts and donations from customers. The funds will be evenly split between this year's target charities: NI mental health and depression charity AWARE, and cancer support charity Macmillan Cancer Support. The phenomenal amount raised this year brings the scheme's total charitable contributions to over the £1m mark since the programme began, an important target that Ulster Bank really wanted to hit this year.

Ulster Bank's Steven Lavery commented: "I’m incredibly proud of all our staff who have worked so hard to raise this amazing total. A big thank-you also to all our customers who really dug deep to help us make a real difference to AWARE and Macmillan."
