Digital DNA's first day is a massive success!

  • A record number of people attended the first day of Digital DNA yesterday, with over 3,000 members of Belfast's tech community coming together for talks, awards, and more.

The big event of the year for many in Northern Ireland's tech industry is of course Digital DNA, which is going on right now in Belfast's historic St George's Market building. The event kicked off strong yesterday with a record number of people in attendance and many of Northern Ireland's tech firms and organisations exhibiting.

Day one's events included a great presentation from Esri Ireland on its ArcGIS mapping and analytics platform for developers that has even been rolled out to schools across the country for free this year. We also caught up with the BCS NI Awards 2019, where former Sync NI lead Tina Louro Pollock picked up the Young IT Professional of the Year award.

The event was packed with interesting talks, including a fantastic BCS talk on the ethical issues attached to AI development and an insightful Career Conversations with Women in Cyber Security panel hosted by Allstate NI. The second day is kicking off this morning with a fresh series of new events and talks including a presentation from mTech.Academy and marketing workshops by Eximo and Friends in support of Barnardo's NI.

Unosquare's Giancarlo Di Vece gave a talk on why his firm chose to set up shop in Belfast's burgeoning tech sector, and Elaine Wwyte from PwC explored emerging applications of drone technology. Local solicitor's firm Tughans also ran its legal workshop for startups offering free advice and the chance to win £1,000 of legal assistance, and Signifyd captured attention with a VR tech demo and a competition to win a drone.

Simon Bailie, Chief Executive of Digital DNA, commented on the event: "The momentum behind Digital DNA has been growing year-on-year and today feels very special. It is now seen as a global meeting place for the best of the tech community, drawn by the quality of the speakers and the chance to meet and share ideas with their peers."
