Queen's University Belfast to host first TEDxQueensUniversityBelfast event

  • Queen's University Belfast plans to host its first ever independent TEDx event this month in partnership with PwC.

Media conference TED brings the world's biggest ideas and innovations to a global stage, and hundreds of smaller independent and licensed TEDx events take place around the world each year. The events feature talks on interesting ideas over a wide range of subjects, with experts discussing their latest research to thought-provoking conversation starters.

Queen's University will get its own TEDx event for the first time later this month when TEDxQueensUniversityBelfast comes to the Riddel Hall on Thursday 23 May 2019. The university is encouraging members of the public to come to view the event, with tickets becoming available tomorrow.

The event will include speakers from the QUB student body and talks from former students who have made it big. There will be a talk from Dr Jackie Redpath MBE, CEO of the Greater Shankill Partnership and a presentation from cyber security expert Professor Máire O’Neill, who recently became the youngest engineering professor ever at Queen’s University.

QUB President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Greer said: "Queen’s University is a hub for innovative and inspired ideas. This important event provides a platform for our students; staff; alumni; and partners to share their ideas and speak about topics that matter to them, and that are relevant to society today. I am also delighted that PwC will be Corporate Partners of the event."
