Allstate NI to host free CyberFirst Girls Defenders camp

  • A free four-day CyberFirst Defenders course for girls interested in cyber-security will take place at Allstate NI's Belfast HQ next month.

Cyber-security is one of the fastest growing tech sectors currently, but the job roles involved are still overwhelmingly held by men. Addressing that imbalace starts at a young age when girls are steered away from the field during education, and it's here that intervention is most effective.

Girls in Northern Ireland aged between 13 and 14 can now sign up to attend the free four-day CyberFirst Defenders course that will help them explore and get excited about cyber-security. The course runs from April 23rd to 26th and will be hosted at Allstate NI's state-of-the-art Belfast headquarters.

The course is aimed at any girl who has demonstrated an interest in computing and will introduce students to the tools, methodologies, and skills used in cyber-security. The course is a hands-on and self-guided learning experience and will cover topics such as how to secure your personal devices and understanding networks.

Applications are open now at https://www.smallpeicetrust.org.uk/courses/girls-defenders-belfast/. Places are limited to 50 students, so those interested are encouraged to get their application in soon.
