DkIT signs deal with STATSports for performance analysis collaboration

  • Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) has announced the launch of a new strategic alliance with leading sports technology firm STATSports to perform sports data analysis.

Newry-based company STATSports produces a range of products that allow athletes and teams of athletes to track their performance using GPS based technologies. The firm has collected mountains of data using its technology, and has now partnered with the Dundalk Institute of Technology to explore ways of analysing performance data and help inspire a new generation of sports data analysts.

The first phase of the agreement will see DKiT and STATSports exploring options for co-developing an applied research project module within the Institute’s existing BA in Sport, Exercise and Enterprise. Further opportunities are also expected with the BSc (Hons) in Health and Physical Activity. As part of the partnership, DKiT students and staff on both courses will benefit from unrivalled access to STATSports performance monitoring technology and expertise from its skilled workforce.

STATSports founder and chief executive Alan Clarke is a former DkIT graduate, and was very positive about the opportunities this new partnership will provide students: "Undergraduates will be able to gain first-hand experience of our performance monitoring devices during the course, which will be hugely beneficial as they move out into the workforce. ... It’s imperative that the link between research and development, educational institutions like DKIT, and a final product is inter-connected and emboldened."
